Lipoma
Definition of Lipoma: benign tumour of fat cells found commonly in subcutaneous tissue.
But what does this mean?
Let’s breakit down.
Fat is an essential component of the area below skin called subcutaneous tissue. It’s what gives us deliciously soft contours and a smooth feel to skin. Sometimes, the code that creates and maintains this tissue “glitches” via a genetic mutation and creates lipomas.
This type of swelling is more common after the age of 16 years and men are more likely to have this than women. It is primarily a cosmetic issue, but can be painful if it’s over a nerve.
